I did not see them hiding in the tomato plants.

She made the flip-flops for me. I love everthing. I need to try out the cutting board. I am a bit late posting about the gifts. Thank you, Christine for all the nice goodies.

She reminds me of me with the messy hair and all.

Knit Slippers (Like Grandma Used To Make)

I just finished these slippers on the drive home from our trip.
I love them. I knit them like Elba, my Nona used to make. She would tell me we put the twisted bows on the ones for the boys. The girls would get little pom poms on the ones for them. I like the twist ties. Jeremiah held the yarn while I twisted them just like she used to do with me.

I used a double strand of worsted weight yarn to make them.
Here is what I did....
Size 8 knitting needles
Slipper Make 2
Cast on 35 for Large
Row 1 : knit 11, purl 1, knit 11, purl 1, knit 11
Row 2: knit across
Repeat Row 1 and Row 2 until measures 7 to 8 inches.
Next begin the Ribbed section
Row 1: knit 3, purl 3, knit 3, purl 3, knit 3, purl 3, knit 3, purl 3, knit 3, purl 3
Row 2: knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches as they face you.
Repeat the ribbing rows for 3 to 4 more inches.
Making sure you have enough length to cover your foot.
I then decreased by knitting two together every other stitch.
I left a long tail and took a needle and put it through the loops and tightened it up. Then stitch up the top of the slipper.
Stitch up the back of the slipper.
I twisted yarn together and let it come back on itself to make 4 strands and made little ties with it.
I just put them through a stitch on the top and tied them in a bow.
Then you have yourself a nice little pair of slippers.

The Campsite

Here is a view from our Cabin. We stayed at a KOA cabin. There were many activities at the camp while we were there. http://www.hockinghillskoa.com/
I saw a hayride go through camp in the afternoon. We played air hockey in a large game room one night. They also had a movie theater. We went to an ice cream sunday bar by the pool.
There was some sort of rock mining contraption at the main office. Where children looked for rocks and minerals.

Police Vehicle

This Vehicle was displayed at the Corn Festival entrance. We live in a pretty small town. I am not sure this sort of vehicle is totally necessary in Fairborn. It is not like there are many riots here.

Super Mayhaw Jelly

Of course, I can't leave well enough alone. I must try to change everything. The last batch turned into what I should call crazy Mayhaw jelly.
Here's what I did
2 2/3 cup mayhaw mix (1 bottle)
2/3 cup water
1/3 cup sliced strawberrys
1/4 cup crasins
1/3 cup blackberries
1/3 cup rasberries
1/3 cup blueberries
1 packet pectin
I took the hand blender and mixed it all up to a pulp while it was simmering.
I think it came out yummy!
I think I need to make some sort of bar cookie with a crumb topping to put this in the center of.
Something to show it off with.

For the standard Mayhaw jelly
It is a delicious flavor. It kind of reminds me of cranberry in a way. Kind of tart but wonderful.

Mayhaw Jelly Mix

So, about a week ago at work a Bonnie says to me she is ordering this stuff to make the best jelly in the world. You know those are tempting words, and I must make some also. She says I can go in with her on part of a case to check it out.
It arrived frozen on Friday.
I have never even heard of this fruit called Mayhaw. So what the heck, I better make 3 batches and try it out.
Here it is.....

Thursday's Harvest

Well, I must say I had lots of cukes ready to pick today in the garden.
I did grow an odd variety this year. I thought I was picking out a normal grocery store variety and it turned out to be longer and thinner.
I must admit they have smaller seeds and are much nicer to eat than the normal ones.

The Quest To Can My Own Pie Fillings

At the Greene County Fair, I found jars of apple pie filling in the canning exhibit. This has made me go on a quest to find a recipe for canning my own pie filling.
This recipe has 4 1/2 stars by it...... (sounds promising)

This next recipe contains gelatin.
