Traveling scarf group #11

I just finished Pgurl's scarf last night, it is going out in the mail today.
I knit the top portion that is green and fades into purple.

I just made these tawashi this morning. These are my favorite type to use in the kitchen they wash up well.

Lotorp bag - Noro, Iro

It took about a week and a half to knit this in my spare time. I felted it last night. It is a rather large bag. But I think the colors are pretty.

Hand spun with flowers

My newest hand spun. I spun up the rest of the fiber I purchased originally. I added some other colors to it, along with some flowers and sparkles. I am sending it to my Mom along with my first two skeins. She is going to make a scarf with it.

Traveling Scarves - Ravelry

I became one of the moderators of the traveling scarf group in Ravelry about a month ago.
We started group #11 and we are doing our scarves in both knit and crochet.
I thought I would start to post the traveling scarves pictures on my blog as they came through to me. I have sent out mine and the first one that came to me. I thought I would wait until the scarves started getting bigger to post pic's of them on my blog. I am interested in what they are going to look like.

TRAVELING SCARVES GROUP
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this type of “swap,” you will start a scarf at 3-4 inches and mail it on. When you receive a scarf in progress, you add 3-4 inches of your own stash and your own stitch to the scarf, then forward it on to the next person on the list.

You will always be sending the scarves to the same person (the person “downstream” from you) and you will always receive from the same person (the person “upstream” from you). The order of the list remains the same all the way through. After your scarf has been through the rest of the list, it will get to the person upstream from you. Then the person upstream from you will send your original scarf back to you, where it stays.

How long will it take to get my scarf back? • In a group consisting of 12 participants, it will take approximately 5-6 months for each scarf to make the entire trip.

This is the other colorway I picked out from DK knits Etsy shop. It is so pretty and there is twice as much as the other one I had selected.

There are so many indepedent dyers out there to pick and choose from. This looks beautiful. I can't wait to spin it.

More hand spun

I had some left over yarn on one of my bobbins. I plied it with some yarn I had left over from a bag I made. When I was at the yarn shop they had mentioned you could do that. It is very interesting. I don't know what I will make with it yet. I am sure I will think of something.

My first attempt at hand spun yarn

I just got my ladybug. I love spinning. It is so much fun. It is very relaxing. I think because the possibilities are endless as far as what kind of fiber you want to create. My eyes are open to a whole new world of things I can make. I am thinking I want to try making lots of interesting yarns I have seen out on the Internet.
I brought my ladybug into a LYS last Sunday to see if what I was spinning was correct. I ended up staying from 1-5pm and learning how to ply the yarn together. Arleen at Fiber works showed me how to make my strands thinner and how to ply. She is planning on teaching a class on making yarns with add ons. I am very interested on making yarn with sparkles and extras spun and plied into it.

My Lady Bug

After much thought on the matter I decided I wanted to learn how to spin yarn. I already am certified to teach the other kind of spinning (at the gym). I have been working too many hours to pick up another job doing that. Mainly because I have to work late at night a few nights a week. I never know when I would be able to schedule a class. So I haven't really looked into it.
Anyway, back to this kind of spinning. When we first moved here to Ohio, I found out this is the place to learn to spin. It seems there is a spinning guild. Also, a lady that owns a fiber shop in town offered to teach me to spin. I had been thinking I would decide this fall which kind of wheel I wanted. I had tried out this wheel and been checking out several others. When the owner of a local yarn shop decided she was going out of business. I stopped by her last day the shop was open, at 7pm. I was just going to see if she was still open and there were 20 people there. Everyone was knitting and chatting and having wine. I asked about the lady bug and she gave me a big discount on the shop's used wheel.
Spinning makes me happy.
Really, yarn is what makes me happy.

I decided to felt my bag I just finished. Since it is 80% wool it felted fine. Now I just need to line it.

Anniversary

Our Anniversary was last night. When I came home Jeremiah had a beautiful jewelry box for me he had picked out. He is always so secretive about where he gets things. Inside I found a pretty rose charm for a necklace or my charm bracelet in black hills gold. He also picked out this great card. I loved it all. I was planning this surprise evening for him along with a card, chocolate and some Astronomy magazines. He had a bad headache so we only did part of the evening and cut it short so he could go home and rest.

First we went to a program in a dome theater room about our nights sky. Where they talked about what stars were going to be out tonight. Then we went to the observatory and looked at Saturn through a big telescope. I saw the rings around it. It was amazing. It was just dusk so we could have stayed to see more but J's headache was getting bad. I had planned to go to a laser light show afterwards that was set to Metal music (his favorite kind of music). But we skipped that for now. It was and interesting place.

knit bag - Lotorp

I just finished knitting this bag this week. It is a pattern first saw some ladies making at the LYS in Augusta, GA. I love the pattern. It is very easy to make and this is the second one I have made.

Here is the book and all the items in it. I did purchase the Noro yarn to make the bag with. I wanted a few pratice runs on the pattern before I used the Noro Iro. I noticed someone else in Ravelry made this bag in this colorway and I liked it. I am thinking about felting it since it is wool. I wanted a photo before and after .
Tonight Jeremiah took me to see a field with fireflys. I don't believe I have ever seen fireflys before. I think maybe we saw one (singular) one time on our balcony in Georgia. I wasn't really convinced it was a true firefly since I had never seen them before.
